Students Gain Real-World Healthcare Experience Through Immersive Simulations

SCOTT County, Iowa (KWQC) - On Wednesday, students gained practical experience through a healthcare simulation event.

Over thirty students signed up to participate in the event, demonstrating collaboration between pupils and staff members from various disciplines in a realistic emergency situation.

"I believe one aspect that often goes unnoticed in the healthcare sector is just how much collaboration takes place," stated India Hawkins, who is pursuing a degree in nursing at Scott Community College.

The participants mentioned that the demonstration highlights how it requires a team effort to provide patients with the necessary care.

It wasn't only the nursing students involved; we also had participants from radiology, dentistry, and surgical technology," Hawkins explained. "The entire healthcare sector joined forces along with our criminal justice program. Observing how everyone united to attend to a single patient highlighted the extensive resources required for such efforts. It truly demonstrates the incredible way we rally to support individuals within our community.

The Eastern Iowa Community Colleges organized the event as part of Community College Month.
