Bill Gates ' daughter Phoebe teamed up with Alex Cooper for her blockbuster success Call Her Daddy In her podcast on Wednesday, she casually mentioned that her father has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, which falls within the autism spectrum.
The 22-year-old was discussing how tough it was when she brought boys home to meet her parents when she revealed that Bill often struggled in social situations.
Father-daughter duo
"My father is quite socially inept. He mentioned that he, well, has Asperger's," Phoehe explained to the host.
The experience of bringing someone home can be quite daunting for them. At the same time, it amuses me a lot," she went on. "It’s incredibly amusing. However, I believe men tend to feel very unsettled about it.
She proceeded to tell a funny tale about how her father reacted when she introduced him to her prom date.
Phoebe reminisced about her early high school days when she didn’t have a steady boyfriend yet. It might have been during her sophomore or junior year at one of her first dances. She remembered how her mother had enlisted her father to take both her and the date to the event.

“I used to be an intensely focused child. I could get so engrossed in whatever activity I was engaged in that I’d often overlook meals,” he penned. “If assessed now, they might have labeled me as autistic, which isn’t necessarily negative—it’s just a facet of my identity.”
He subsequently mentioned in an interview with Axios He felt distinct from his peers as he grew up. He stated, "From an early age, I realized I had a distinctive nature that puzzled others due to my high energy levels and intense focus, often leading me to delve deeply into self-study."
It can be somewhat perplexing as a child to realize you’re different, how others might respond to you, or issues with your social skills—often missing the mark in several areas.
He went on: "I firmly believe that my parents, perhaps without fully intending to, and since there was no formal diagnosis, helped significantly by explaining certain aspects to me and encouraging me to engage more socially."
Working the room
Phoebe later recounted on the podcast that she had to push her dad to mingle with her friends’ parents during collective gatherings because of his shy demeanor.
"There was a time when people joked that our family would seem incredibly dull without me. Whenever Mom dragged us to those father-daughter dance events, I made sure Dad went over to chat with every other dad and daughter present,” she shared. “I insisted, ‘We can’t just sit still; if we’re here, let’s mingle! Let’s cover the whole room, Bill.’”
