Healthcare Professionals Gather for Trauma Symposium in SPI
South Padre Island, Texas ( ValleyCentral — Each year, numerous healthcare providers from throughout the Rio Grande Valley come together for a trauma symposium organized by the Trauma Regional Advisory Council-V (TRAC-V).
The 6th yearly conference started on Thursday in South Padre Island.
The event organizers present this gathering as a chance for medical professionals such as doctors, nurses, EMTs, and paramedics to connect with one another, share knowledge, and participate in talks led by specialists from their community.
We shine a light on local doctors making significant contributions in this area," stated TRAC-V Executive Director Nathan Ramon. "These professionals can share their knowledge, allowing those working in our region’s medical field—paramedics, emergency responders, nurses, and doctors—to gain insights into the most effective techniques and understand how successful we’ve been within the Valley.
When queried about what the Rio Grande Valley stands out for, healthcare providers highlighted the presence of whole blood in ambulances for emergency use before reaching the hospital.
The Rio Grande Valley has become part of a select number of areas capable of providing whole blood to trauma victims during their transport to hospitals, which helps save crucial minutes for those experiencing significant blood loss.
Physicians additionally noted that the occasion serves as a valuable chance for different fields to gain insights into one another’s work, enabling them to collaboratively offer superior patient care.
We each have predefined roles and duties when it comes to what Emergency Medical Services (EMS) handle compared to hospitals, doctors, nurses, and so forth," explained Wesley Milum, the Trauma Program Director at Valley Baptist in Harlingen. "However, without knowing whom you're communicating with—understanding their background, struggles, and experiences both in the field and within a hospital setting—you won't fully grasp or value what they accomplish.
The first day of the symposium featured presentations on managing various traumas and strokes.
On May 2nd, the event will proceed featuring multiple presentations led by experts specializing in areas such as trauma, strokes, heart attacks, and maternal and neonatal health.
