‘Paws for Relaxation’: INTEGRIS Health Celebrates National Therapy Animal Day

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Intergris Health is highlighting National Therapy Animal Day at its locations with cherished volunteers: Kasper the therapy dog and his handler, Cheryl.

Based on information from Integris Health, every alternate Wednesday, individuals receiving treatment and the employees at the Integris Health Cancer Institute have the chance to meet Kasper, who belongs to the Weimaraner breed. According to health officials, Kasper’s visits foster therapeutic and significant experiences, earning him the nickname of "the de-stressor dog."

Occasionally, we notice patients becoming more outgoing when Kasper enters the room," explains Cheryl. "This serves as a distinct form of therapy. While it might not have physical healing effects, it certainly has emotional benefits. If we succeed in making even one individual smile, we consider our objective for the day accomplished.

The Hello Kitty Café begins its 2025 U.S. tour on May 3rd.

Integris officials noted that Weimaraners are frequently referred to as the "gray ghost," and they highlighted how Kasper’s calm and tolerant disposition make him an ideal partner through challenging moments.

Cheryl asserts her belief that every dog can create an impact, stating, "If you feel like doing something about it, go ahead," she emphasizes. "Canine-assisted therapy genuinely counts, particularly for individuals feeling homesick, longing for their families, or simply missing their pets. Such efforts matter."
